How we handle your data

Effective date: May 4, 2026  ·  Applies to the U-Move iOS application

U-Move (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the U-Move iOS app, how we use it, what we share, and your rights as a user.

This is a plain-language summary intended to be transparent and readable.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.

Visible to other users: Job postings (description, addresses, photos, and move date) are visible to authenticated U-Movers browsing the app. Mover profiles (name, school, skills, badges, and reviews) are visible to authenticated clients browsing for movers. No user’s email address, phone number, or account credentials are shown to other users.

Firebase (Google): U-Move uses Firebase as its backend infrastructure, including Firebase Authentication, Firestore (database), Firebase Storage, and Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications). Data stored in Firebase is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.

Stripe: U-Move uses Stripe to process payments, pay out U-Movers (Stripe Connect), and verify U-Mover identities (Stripe Identity). Card numbers, bank account details, and identity documents are collected and stored by Stripe, not by U-Move. This data is subject to Stripe’s Privacy Policy.

Anthropic (AI quoting): If you choose to use “Record your move,” U-Move builds your quote with an AI model provided by Anthropic. Your walkthrough video is recorded and processed on your device: U-Move extracts a small number of still frames (up to 10, downscaled) and sends only those frames, plus any note you type, to Anthropic’s API to identify the items being moved. The video file itself and its audio track are never uploaded and never leave your device. The frames are used to return your inventory and quote, and are not used for advertising. We ask for your explicit permission before any frame is sent to Anthropic, on a screen that names Anthropic and lists exactly what is and is not shared; nothing is transmitted unless you agree. You can withdraw that permission at any time in the app under Account → Settings → Privacy → AI quote permission, and we will ask again the next time you use the scan. This step is optional: the standard booking flow builds a quote from details you type, with no AI involved. Data sent to Anthropic is subject to Anthropic’s Privacy Policy.

Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.

4. Information We Do Not Collect

U-Move does not collect:
  • Full card or bank account numbers: these are entered directly into Stripe’s secure forms and are never stored on U-Move’s servers
  • Any device location from the iOS app: the app requests no location permission at all, and cannot read your position in the foreground or the background
  • Background location from the website: the optional “Use my current location” button reads your position once, only when you tap it
  • Contacts from your address book
  • Health or fitness data
  • Browsing history or search history outside the app
  • Any data used to track you across third-party apps or websites

U-Move does not engage in cross-app or cross-website tracking.

5. App Permissions

U-Move requests the following iOS permissions. Each permission is optional where noted and is only used for the stated purpose.

Permission When requested How it is used
Camera When a client chooses to take a photo, or to record a walkthrough video for an instant AI quote, during job posting Captures photos of items or spaces to attach to a job listing, or records a short walkthrough video
Microphone When a client records a walkthrough video (iOS captures an audio track with any video) Not used. The audio stays on your device: only still frames from the video are uploaded to build your quote, never the video file or its audio
Photo Library When a client chooses to upload an existing photo Selects photos from your library to attach to a job listing or set a profile picture
Push Notifications After sign-up, the system will prompt for permission Sends alerts for job acceptances, status changes, and dispute updates

All permissions can be revoked at any time in your iPhone Settings → U-Move.

6. Payments

Payments are processed securely through Stripe. When a client books a job, their card is authorized (a hold is placed) and it is charged only after the client confirms the job is complete. All amounts shown before booking are estimates.

Card details are entered directly into Stripe’s payment form and are never transmitted to or stored on U-Move’s servers. U-Movers receive their earnings through Stripe Connect, and their payout details are likewise held by Stripe. No Apple Pay or in-app purchase integration is present in the app.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Completed job records are retained to support dispute resolution and review integrity. When you delete your account, your profile and personal data are permanently deleted from our database and your Firebase Authentication account is permanently deleted. Payment transaction records are retained by Stripe as required for financial compliance.

U-Move does not collect analytics or crash-report data, so there is no usage profile to retain. Operational logs generated by Firebase and Stripe while serving your requests are retained by those providers under their own data-retention policies.

8. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time, directly inside the app:

  1. Open U-Move and go to the Profile tab.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
  3. Confirm the prompt. Your profile is permanently deleted and you are signed out.

If the app asks you to sign out and sign back in before deleting, this is a security step required by Firebase. Sign out, sign back in, and try again.

You may also request account deletion by emailing support@umoveapp.com.

9. Children’s Privacy

U-Move is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact support@umoveapp.com.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we will notify users via the app or by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of U-Move after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
